Historic Alexandria Summer Camps 2010

Fort Ward Civil War Kid's Camp
WHAT: This week of fun and learning introduces children to life during the Civil War. Activities include drilling, craft projects, Civil War food and music, visits by reenactors, nineteenth-century games, lessons on Civil War flags and setting up Civil War tents. Fee includes snacks, kepi, equipment and craft projects. Children should bring a bag lunch each day.
 
WHO:  Ages: 8 - 12
Enrollment limit: 24 campers
 
WHEN:  June 28 – July 2, 2010
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. daily
 
WHERE:  Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site
 
COST:  Fee: $250

Clio’s Kids: A History Fun Camp
The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum

WHAT: Clio's Kids introduces American History and life in historic Alexandria through artifacts, storytelling, singing and dancing, crafts, "old-fashioned" games, and visits to nearby historic places. Campers should come prepared for outside activities each day, including sturdy walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.
 
WHO: Children ages 5 - 7
 
WHEN:  July 20-22, 2010, 9 a.m. to noon (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
 
WHERE: The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum, 201 S. Washington Street
 
COST:  The fee is $105 and includes snacks and souvenirs.

Curator Camp
The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum

WHAT:   During Curator Camp kids will learn about museums from the inside out! Campers will meet the people who make The Lyceum work each day, take a behind-the-scenes tour, learn about and touch real historic artifacts, and work as a team to create a small exhibit. Campers, their family and friends return to The Lyceum on a later date for their exhibit opening reception. Campers should bring a bagged lunch and wear closed-toed shoes.
 
WHO:   Ages 11 - 14
 
WHEN:   Wednesday, August 18, 2010, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
 
WHERE:   The Lyceum: Alexandria’s History Museum, 201 S. Washington Street
 
COST:   The fee is $75 and includes snacks and souvenirs.
