Summer Camp

Alexandria Archaeology Summer Camp

WHAT:  Learn professional excavating, recording, and artifact processing methods. Help uncover the City's buried past while protecting historical resources. Lectures, field trips, and ice cream stops included. Conduct your own site tour for your family on the last day.
 
WHO:  Ages 12 - 15. Each session limited to 15 campers.
 
WHEN:  Session I: July 21 - July 25, 2008
Session II: July 28 - August 1, 2008
 
WHERE:  Campers assist City archaeologists at the Shuter's Hill excavation site, located on the grounds of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, Virginia.
 
COST:  $350/session of which $100 is a non-refundable deposit required to secure space. Includes a commemorative T-shirt. Scholarships available.

Fort Ward Civil War Kid's Camp

WHAT: This week of fun and learning introduces children to life during the Civil War. Activities include drilling, craft projects, Civil War food and music, visits by reenactors, nineteenth-century games, lessons on Civil War flags and setting up Civil War tents. Fee includes snacks, kepi, equipment and craft projects. Children should bring a bag lunch each day.
 
WHO:  Ages: 8 - 12
Enrollment limit: 24 campers
 
WHEN:  June 23 - 27, 2008
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. daily
 
WHERE:  Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site
 
COST:  Fee: $200

Clio’s Kids: A History Fun Camp
The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum

Clio's Kids: A History Fun Camp is full for 2008. Please call 703-838-4994 to be placed on our Waitlist.

WHAT: Clio's Kids introduces American History and life in historic Alexandria through artifacts, storytelling, singing and dancing, crafts, "old-fashioned" games, and visits to nearby historic places. Campers should come prepared for outside activities each day, including sturdy walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.
 
WHO: Children ages 5 - 7
 
WHEN:  July 29-31, 2008 9 a.m. to noon (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
 
WHERE: The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum, 201 S. Washington Street
 
COST: The fee is $95 and includes snacks and souvenirs.
 
INFO:  Pre-registration is required. Call 703-838-4994 for more information. The Lyceum is owned and operated by the City of Alexandria. Print your Summer Camp Application and mail it to the museum with your payment.
