Each Sunday, from April through October, Alexandria's past comes to life with HistoricAlexandriALIVE! See historical performers and costumed interpreters along the Waterfront by the Torpedo Factory on Sundays, from noon to 5 p.m.

Special free performances may feature:

  • Italian equilibrist Signora Bella, who amazes and delights audiences by juggling flaming torches and sharp Turkish swords and balancing on the rola bola, slack rope, and a large sphere.
  • KD Puppets, who entertains 21st-century visitors with classics such as Rapunzel and The Three Little Pigs – but with a modern twist.
  • Eighteenth-century English country dancers, who demonstrate the popular dances of the day and teach audience members a few steps.
  • Mr. Thomas Wall, the Gentleman Fencer, who delights spectators with his daring demonstrations, showcases the finer points of fencing, and even recruits students from the audiences.
  • Shakespearean actors, who perform scenes from the Bard's plays including Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Taming of the Shrew.
  • Musician Stephen Christoff, who explores early American music by playing an octave mandolin, hand-flute, saw, and other instruments.
  • Charlotte, the enslaved head seamstress to Martha Washington, who talks about her life and survival during a visit to Alexandria.
  • McLean High School’s Project Enlightenment program, which brings residents and visitors from the 18th century to meet people today along the waterfront and lower King Street.

HistoricAlexandriALIVE will return to its regular schedule in the spring but special performances for the winter holidays have just been announced!
