History comes to life in Alexandria, Virginia with over 25 different education programs.
Alexandria's History Comes to Life
Alexandria offers educators the unique
opportunity to reinforce their classroom teaching
with hands-on experiences, field trips, lectures,
educational kits and other media resources. These
programs are designed to foster interest in the
history and culture of our city from colonial times
to the present.
Schedule an Educational Program
This list briefly describes historic properties
that offer student tours and programs. A wide range
of topics are offered, from the colonial period
(Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, Carlyle House, and
The Lyceum) through the 19th century (Fort Ward
Museum, Freedom House Museum, and the Lee-Fendall House) to the Civil
Rights movement (the Alexandria Black History
Museum).

reservations. For tours including more than one of
the sites, contact the Office of Historic
Alexandria education coordinator at Alexandria Archaeology by email or at 703-838-4399.
Large groups may be accommodated by dividing them
into smaller groups and rotating site visits, as
many of the historic properties are within easy
walking distance of each other. Most sites comply
with the Americans with Disabilities
Act.
Parking
When arranging a tour, inquire about location of parking
facilities. Arrangements for bus and van parking are
also available.
Alexandria City Public Schools
Many sites offer free admission to public school
groups and local groups. When making reservations, inquire about the
fee structure.
