Pippenger, Wesley E., Alexandria Virginia Death Records, 1863-1868 (The Gladwin Record) and 1869-1896. (Westminster, Md.: Family Line Publications, 1995). Includes data kept by Rev. Albert Gladwin who was superintendent of the contraband cemetery, formerly on South Washington Street. Also included is a map of Alexandria during the 1860-1870 era, devised by the author and John Huennekens. Obituary Index to the Alexandria Gazette, 1916- The Alexandria Library Special Collections division is adding to this on-line index as each year is completed.

Order from the Virginia Genealogical Society, Richmond) Index of all estate-related records found on microfilm and other collections. The primary emphasis is the contents of will books, but will often include items from other original court records. As the content of will books differed between locations in Virginia, this index may include bonds (administrator, executor, guardianship), appointments of officials, divisions, accounts, divisions, inventories, plats, lists of slaves, apprenticeship indentures, powers of attorney, and settlements. Over 100 pages are devoted to Arlington/Alexandria records. This multiple-volume set will be completed geographically.
