Building a Community: Alexandria Past to Present
The Lyceum's permanent exhibition tells the story of Alexandria, from
the Native Americans who first camped here to fish, through the city's
founding and growth as a seaport, its role as a Civil War railroad center,
to its present position within the vast Washington, D.C. metropolitan
area.
New exhibitions frequently are shown in the James Coldsmith
Gallery. This space is used for smaller exhibits that focus on some
particular story within Alexandria's history.
