An 18th Century Birthday Party

Appropriate for children ages 6 to 12, Gadsby's Tavern Museum Birthday Parties are a unique way to celebrate. Our 1.5-hour parties include a costumed guide, a hands-on tour of the museum, crafts, games, and even a gift for the birthday child! Choose from two different themes and our party additions to make your son or daughter's birthday unique!

Activity Choices

  • Tea Party-Enjoy an afternoon tea party and learn the customs of 18th century tea drinking as you share cookies and cake with your friends. Dolls and stuffed animals welcome!
  • Time Traveler-Travel back in time and join us for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure! Experience the 18th century first-hand as you travel back over 200 years. Make your own traveling trunk to bring home your historic finds.

Contact Gadsby's Tavern Museum's Curator of Education by phone at 703-838-4242 to schedule your party. Birthday Parties begin between 11am and 2pm. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to secure the date for your party. Weekends, particularly between February and June, book fast, so call today!

Cost

$250 for 10 children, $15 per additional child
Limit of 20 children
Admission for adults is free. Please, no more than 2 adults per 5 children.*
*The museum guide will ensure the birthday party runs smoothly, but requests at least two adults be present to assist with discipline.

Extras

  • Goody Bags: $3.50 each. All goody bags include a pencil, postcard, bookmark, and sticker. Choose one of the following to complete your goody bag:
    • Option 1: mini flashlight keychain
    • Option 2: fan and scented soap
    • Option 3: word find book
  • Themed Invitations or Thank You notes: $3.50 for 10 cards and envelopes, $.25 each additional
  • Half hour of additional time for parent-directed activities: $50
  • Additional half hour 18th century English Country Dancing lesson: $75

What the Parents Provide (if they desire)

  • Additional decorations
    • The birthday family may arrive 15 minutes before the party to decorate
    • Due to the historic nature of our buildings, decorations should be limited to table tops-nothing may be attached to the walls or ceiling
    • Please no confetti, streamers, or feathers
    • Helium balloons must be weighted
