Advance publicity, often issued six months or more before a program
occurs, can be crucial in highlighting the event itself and your unit’s
participation. Fort Ward’s staff works with media relations professionals
to get the word out on Museum programs. The sooner your unit commits
to a program date, or can provide details about a program activity, the
more publicity will be generated. Although there are no guarantees when
working with the media, experience shows that a concise, well-crafted
press release, plus quality promotional photographs, can catch an editor’s
eye, especially when on deadline.
