Shows to be Held at New Historic Alexandria History Center & Museum Shop

 

The talented troupe of performers for HistoricAlexandriALIVE is coming back to the Alexandria waterfront for special holiday shows. These performances will take place at the new Historic Alexandria History Center & Museum Shop (ground floor, 101 North Union Street).

 

Saturday, December 6

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Patrick Henry, one of Virginia’s early governors and a passionate fighter for liberty, visits Alexandria’s waterfront.

4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Musician Stephen Christoff explores early American music, playing an octave mandolin, hand-flute, saw and other instruments. And Signora Bella, the Italian equilibrist and 18th-century acrobat, will perform amazing feats including juggling swords and walking the slack rope.

 

Sunday, December 7

Saturday, December 13

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Charlotte, the enslaved seamstress to Martha Washington, talks about her life and survival as she visits Alexandria.

 

Sunday, December 14

Noon to 6 p.m. – Musician Stephen Christoff explores early American music, playing an octave mandolin, hand-flute, saw and other instruments.

 

Saturday, December 20

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Shakespearean actors present scenes from the Bard’s best, Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Taming of the Shrew.

4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Charlotte, the enslaved seamstress to Martha Washington, talks about her life and survival as she visits Alexandria.

 

Sunday, December 21

Noon to 6 p.m. – Family favorite KD Puppets’ special holiday show is great fun for kids – and their parents!

 

The recently opened Historic Alexandria History Center & Museum Shop reflects the themes and collections from Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, the Apothecary and all Historic Alexandria museums. New Discovery Carts give visitors a sneak preview of Friendship Firehouse, Black History and Archaeology museums, and hands-on activity areas for kids include a Civil War tent from Fort Ward and a “please touch” exhibit from The Lyceum. The shop area offers great holiday gift ideas and the very best selections from all the museum stores!

 

The History Center is open Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. (closed Monday and Tuesday). For more information, please call 703.706.5262.
