A new townhouse development on the 100 block of South Lee
Street opened the door to 250 years of history. Originally
part of the bay, the half block site provided evidence of
the early wharf as well as 18th century land fill. Early
in the next century, the Jamieson Bakery was built. Its
cistern and ovens document how crackers for sailors' food
were produced. A nearby tavern hosted seafaring peoples.
Artifacts which once were used on the tavern tables, coins
and musical instruments now are preserved in the Alexandria
Archaeology Museum. Visit the new exhibit in the Museum.
